On Board 2021
Annika Ramos is now a board member at
Small Charities Coalition. Annika said "I attended the 'PwC Career Tips and Tricks Talk', with Women on Boards last September 2020, and one of the phrases that came out of it which really stuck with me was to have a 5 year plan to help guide your career and progression.
With this in mind, I set myself goals to achieve incrementally - stuff that I wanted to achieve down the line in 6 months, 2 years, and 5 years later. One of those things was to get a position as a trustee at a charity that aligned with my interests.
Through Women On Boards, I re-connected with a fellow member whom I had interacted with in a previous role. A snippet of some testimony from her had been included in one of the weekly email updates and I took it as an opportunity to reach out in order to gain some insight and knowledge into what it takes to achieving a board member role. Her guidance and advice was something that I took with me throughout every conversation with potential organisations since, and I believe that it was part of the reason I was eventually successful in gaining a trusteeship with Small Charities Coalition, which was also advertised through Women on Boards".

The WOB community was primed to help and they did, with feedback, interview prep and CV tweaking. I was already in the zone with a full NED makeover, regular perusal of the opportunity noticeboard, and the confidence to move into a technical area adjacent to my own. That propelled me into a related board role with the National Centre for Atmospheric Science. The WOB mantra of comradely confidence-building, emphasizing transferable skills, and leading with chutzpah really works".
