ASX300

Board composition of the 300 largest stocks by market capitalisation in Australia. In 2020 this list was provided by Watermark Search in mid January. In general the ASX continues to improve until you go past the ASX200, when gender balance starts to fall off a cliff. This can clearly be seen if you review the 200-301 lists below.

2020

There has been little shift in two years in the percentage of women on the boards of the top listed 300 companies - from 28.3% in 2018 to 28.4%. There are 28 companies in the ASX300 without a female board member - 18 in the ASX201 - 300. These are Bellevue Gold Limited, Charter Hall Social Infrastructure REIT, Dacian Gold Limited, Emeco Holdings, HUB24 Limited, Intega Group Limited, Ioneer Limited, Jupiter Mines, Kogan.com Limited, Maca Limited, Navigator Global Limited, New Century Resource, Paladin Energy Limited, Redcape Hotel Group, Rural Funds Group FP Units Stapled Securities, Speedcast Int Limited, Superloop Limited, West African Res Limited.

2018

Of the top 300 listed companies reviewed women held 28.3% of board positions. In addition, only 35 entities had 40% or more board positions held by women. Their are still a large number of listed companies yet to have a female board member, with 29 companies failing to achieve this in 2018. Board gender diversity is gradually improving in this sector, however there is still a long way to go before the 40% target is met.

Board gender diversity in the ASX201-300 is broadly poor, with 19% of board positions occupied by a female. In addition, 19 listed companies failed to have a female on their board. It was disappointing to note that only 5 companies had 40% or more board positions held by women.
