How you can use the “new normal” to advance your board career

2020 is a time like no other. The ways in which we do business have changed beyond all recognition due to Covid-19.
In the absence of face-to-face networking, we need to find alternative ways to stay memorable. This is why LinkedIn has never been so important – online networking is rapidly taking the place of those meetings we all previously took for granted. But how can you get the most out of this new landscape?

The importance of being memorable online

We are more interconnected than any previous generation. Attention spans are shorter, and it has become much harder to stand out from the crowd.

Yet if we want to access opportunities, being memorable is essential. Until this year, we have always been able to rely on face-to-face meetings to keep ourselves present in the minds of those people we needed to reach. Conversations in the foyer or by the watercooler. Chance meetings in cafes and at membership lounges. Covid has destroyed all of this. And, as a result, people are looking for new ways to connect.

This is why more and more people are turning to LinkedIn. It is no coincidence that during the second quarter of 2020, when many people began working from home, LinkedIn use rose by 27%. There are now 11.2 million LinkedIn profiles in Australia – this represents 95% of our population.

With so much competition on the platform, you need to understand exactly how to use LinkedIn if you want to become, and stay, memorable.

How to use LinkedIn to stand out

Learning how to use LinkedIn isn’t just about navigating the technicalities of the platform correctly. It’s just as much about how you interact, what you say, posting engaging content that provides maximum value to your audience.

WOB has introduced three new webinars that we belive are important to your board journey, to help you discover how to:

  • optimise your profile for maximum visibility;
  • find, reach out to and engage the people you need; and
  • post content that hits all the right notes and establishes you as an authority in your field.

Networking online is the new normal. Our future success will depend on how well and how quickly we learn to adapt to it.

As a highly experienced LinkedIn trainer, Karen Tisdell will present a series of three webinars showing you how you can use LinkedIn to unlock the opportunities you need.
