We were delighted to have more than 80 WOBers attend this very eclectic venue in a cosily snug room. This created a great vibe and made networking easy, with a wonderful woman to rub shoulders with whichever way you turned
The concept for WOBMeet originated based on subscriber feedback for a way to meet, learn and gain inspiration from each other. And our first WOBMeet delivered just that!
The evening kicked off with guests arriving at 5pm to a drink and duck pancakes. After a cleansing beverage the formal proceeding started at 5.30pm sharp. Hosted by our most entertaining Executive Director, Claire Braund, guests were welcomed with warm up exercises focused on “developing your elevator pitch”.
The elevator pitch is the quintessential skill to master. It’s the intro you have ready for that impromptu meeting to make an impression. Most of us struggle with the concept of self-promotion without appearing cheesy or overly keen. The ability to practice our pitches with other WOBers provided the perfect opportunity to learn about each other and get feedback in a supportive and nurturing environment. This elevator pitch will become a regular feature of WOBMeets.
This was followed by a relaxed panel discussion with Sheena Wilson, Ruth Jones and Nicole Donegan with tips on where to start your board journey, the value of mentoring and the board recruitment process, plus lots of questions and audience discussion.
The value of a WOBMeet is having so many wonderfully intelligent and real women in one room, who are SO willing to share and nurture each other.
Formal proceeding concluded at 6.20 pm, with more opportunity for WOBers to mingle before the function officially finished at 7pm.
Overall it was a great night enjoyed by everyone who attended.
WOBMeets will be held bi-monthly across the nation for paid subscribers. Register now to secure your place at the next one. Visit our Events page and filter by your state to see a date near you.
A quote from one of our attendees:
“Thanks to you for a great evening Tuesday night – was a friendly and relaxed night and great to see so many passionate and driven women! From someone who isn’t a great networker I found it an easy environment to speak to people – I look forward to the next one!”
