Three WOB members appointed to Scouts NSW governance roles


Former NSW Children’s Guardian and WOB member, Kerryn Boland, has been appointed Vice President of Scouts Australia NSW - the first woman to hold such a high honorary role. 


Scouts NSW welcomed Kerryn and two other Women on Boards members at the organisation’s AGM on 16 July. Kerryn was elected for three years as Vice President, while Renee Burkinshaw and Anthea Cudworth were also elected for three years to the Board as Non-Executive Directors with specific skills in Change Management and Corporate Affairs respectively. 

Scouts NSW Chair, Kerry McGoldrick said: “We are delighted to be bringing such depth of knowledge to our governance structure at a time when we are building a strong, sustainable future. The breadth of experience that Kerryn, Renee and Anthea bring to our organisation will be invaluable as we rebound after a challenging couple of years.”

Scouts NSW CEO Carolyn Campbell welcomed the three women to their new roles. “Scouts is open to all young people, regardless of their background, identity or beliefs. We have continued to attract more females to participate in Scouting activities as volunteers, employees, leaders, and as Scouts, reflecting the local communities in which we operate. It’s an exciting time to be part of one of the biggest youth movements in the world.”

Kerryn Boland

Following her 12-year tenure as NSW Children’s Guardian, where she worked with stakeholders across diverse industry sectors to develop, implement and foster child safe practices and systems, Kerryn served on the Scouts NSW Board for five years. On her appointment as Vice President, she said: “I look forward to helping strengthen the organisation, which plays such an important role in in building youth leadership skills.”

Anthea Cudworth

With over 15 years of professional employment in Corporate Affairs and having volunteered for Scouts NSW since 2011, Anthea is an experienced Director. She holds an MBA, together with professional qualifications in investment management, finance and communications. She said: “I’m a long-standing advocate for the extraordinary benefits that Scouts delivers to young people, giving them valuable and practical skills for life.”

Renee Burkinshaw

As an HR specialist with over a decade of experience in culture, diversity, organisational change and leadership, Renee brings valuable expertise in Organisation Change and Culture to the Board. She has a degree in Sociology, as well as post-graduate qualifications in HR and Applied Coaching, and is a member of professional associations in these fields. She said: “I’m drawn to the Scouts NSW vision, mission and values, and am excited to contribute to innovative ways of transforming its fantastic community service.”
