Personal Career Management scholarship recipients announced

Risk and compliance leader Shobha Nambiar and IT specialist Annabel Lui have been named the Women on Boards Personal Career Management Scholarship recipients.

The women, both from Sydney, won scholarship places on the PCM program, which starts this Thursday, 7 April. The scholarship was open to culturally-diverse women looking to progress into executive roles and build their toolkit for leadership success.

Born and educated in India, Shobha Nambiar is a seasoned governance, risk and compliance leader with over 20 years’ experience providing direction to Boards and executive committees on complex commercial, strategic and regulatory matters.

Shobha - whose current role is Governance, Risk and Compliance manager with Sydney-based affordable rental housing provider City West Housing - said she will use the program as a launchpad to boost her executive career.

“I hope to benefit from the guidance, and proper use of tools from this PCM program. The interactive support and positive environment that I will gain over time will help me steer my interest in executive roles. The opportunity will allow me to progress and add more value to the community than I am able to do so now,” she said.

IT specialist Annabel Lui has been in the industry for 20 years and is currently working as a Principle Research Advisor for Asia Pac at Info-Tech Research Group where she helps CIOs and IT senior leaders establish best practices and IT frameworks for their organisations.

“Naturally an introvert thinker, I’m always looking for ways to improve and grow. Like most women, especially with my Asian background, I have to navigate through the unconscious biases especially in the workplace where I work in a male-dominated industry,” she said.

“I love the WOB one-pager to tell the story and I do believe the tools and tips will help me go a long way.”
