‘Confidence to strive for a goal’
Emma Tyler is a sourcing manager in the mining sector. She was one of 22 women who took part in WOB’s inaugural Personal Career Management (PCM) program in May to help her take control of her career.
“It was a breath of fresh air,” said Emma. “It was an amazingly supportive program where I could focus on what I want out of my career and how to get there."
The six-week program consisted of eight virtual sessions and one face-to-face day in Sydney. Emma said she particularly enjoyed the Sydney session. “Working in a male dominated industry, it was so lovely being around such inspirational women. The course has made me focus on what I want, rather than what is available, and has given me confidence to strive for a goal.”
‘Paving the way’
Forensic accountant Danai Christelis chose to do the PCM course to explore future career options and said it was the “most valuable investment” of her time this year, giving her renewed confidence in her own potential.
“I have benefited both personally and professionally from the holistic approach to look deeply within and map out the road ahead for the next phase in my career journey,” Danai said. “It has definitely helped, by expanding my thinking and paving the way for the journey ahead.”
She particularly enjoyed the in-person session, specifically the presentation skills session with Mariette Rups-Donnelly and said she “benefited immensely” from the one-on -one coaching by her assigned mentor, Sheena Wilson.
“The structure of the course coupled with WOB’s supportive network of leading facilitators and participants provides the perfect platform for ambitious like-minded ladies to grow and succeed.”
‘Invaluable tools and resources’
Shobhar Nambiar works in community housing as a governance, risk and compliance manager and said through the six-week challenge, she felt empowered and confident to challenge her self-perception and to understand and believe in her brand.
She opted to do the PCM course to help her see clarity on the path to achieving her goals “It has led to positive change in my career: In my thought process, approach and mindset for now. I am confident I will find the path to get to my goals.”
Another participant said the course led to a ‘lightbulb moment’. “PCM was an intense fast paced learning with lots of invaluable tools and resources,” she said. “The culmination being the insightful comment from an executive senior leader: ‘you have been invisible’. This was a lightbulb moment. The acknowledgement in itself made me feel I was visible."
