Milestones in her 14-year non-executive career, which started in 2009 when she left KPMG as a tax partner, were interspersed with stories around why she takes on roles, the challenges some of them have presented and how she functions as a director.
Currently an NED and audit committee chair for Bid Corporation and President of the INSEAD International Directors Network, Helen spoke about the importance of networks and having trusted companions in your directorship journey.
“WOB literally changed my life,” she said, telling of how important WOB and its network were to her success after leaving KPMG to embark on a NED career.
“When the going gets tough our job as directors is to be in the trenches together – egos and fears out,” she said, adding that some things can be a ‘Gorilla of a challenge’ and it is important to have trusted people to support you.
