Do you have NFP and Government Boards on your horizon?

Throughout May Women on Boards co-founder and director, Claire Braund, will be joined by leaders in the NFP and Government Board sectors who will be sharing their insights and tips at a series of Boards on Your Horizons workshops around the country - from Perth to Brisbane.

The Not-For-Profit and Government sectors are a rich source of board and committee roles. There are literally thousands of positions available in these rewarding and interesting sectors. Best of all they are suited to both the first time and the more experienced non-executive-director, and all levels in between.

In Perth on 5 May, Claire will be joined by Amy Lomas (Deputy Chair of Pilbara Ports Authority and a Partner, Integrated Infrastructure with PWC) and corporate governance specialist in the minerals sector, Ivy Chen, (Football West and Horizon Power board member and Director of Multicultural Futures).

In Sydney on 12 May Julie Savet Ward (NED with Hunter Water and State Member with Sydney North Planning and Alternate Member on Regional Planning Panels and former NED with NSW Environment Protection Agency) will share her knowledge and insights as a professional NED and Chair with experience on company and project boards in the property, infrastructure and professional services sector.

Guest speakers in Melbourne on 19 May are experience NED and Chair, Robin Buckham (Chair and NED of Gippsland Ports Committee of Management, and NED of Law Institute Victoria, Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust and Rice Growers Australia) and Watermark Search International Lead Partner, Jacinta Whelan who advises corporates and governments on the Executive Interim marketplace.

There is also another Boards on Your Horizon event in Brisbane on 26 May, with guest speakers to be advised.

At each event, participants will get to spend the morning with Claire and the guest panellists. Expect to be rewarded with a much greater awareness and understanding of boards and committees in the NFP and government sectors. Participants will come away with:

  • Information on how the sectors operate and the opportunities and pitfalls
  • The capacity to assess where your skills will best fit - and what you have to offer
  • A plan for which sectors and roles to target
  • How to apply for these roles
  • Next steps in your pathway to directorship
