Around 30 women attended the Clayton Utz-hosted event at 1 Bligh Street in Sydney’s CBD – the first Director Lunch to be held since COVID restrictions were put in place in early 2020.
WOB Executive Chair Ruth Medd entertained the crowd as guest speaker, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities for boards chairing remote meetings and using Zoom during COVID lockdowns.
Before the lunch, Ruth and WOB Executive Director and co-founder, Claire Braund, hosted a three-hour Getting Started workshop, also at the law firm.
Claire said it was fantastic to be back at Clayton Utz after the 18-month hiatus.
“Clayton Utz is the longest serving partner of Women on Boards and we’ve had so many fantastic lunches here over the years,” she said.
“In that time we’ve run so many workshops and seen so many stellar women who’ve gone on to forge really stellar board careers.
“It’s gorgeous to be back in situ, in this wonderful building, meeting and greeting new and old WOB members and really being able to craft for many of them a strategy they can take forward and actions they can take and do something with and can use to progress their board career.”
Claire also said one of the best things about being back was not having to wear headphones and be on Zoom all the time.
“It is fantastic to be able to talk to people, network with people and we’re looking forward to having a whole lot more of these events in the future.”
