Congratulations to The Boardroom School graduates

6/12/2021

A unique partnership between Women on Boards and Margot Foster’s The Boardroom School has seen the first 14 women graduate from the collaborative virtual governance and leadership program.

WOB partnered with experienced director Margot to present her signature program Board Governance and Leadership for Directors from The Boardroom School.

The eight-week virtual program started on 20 September. The graduates ranged from a retail CEO and former judge to an airline executive and anaesthetist. They were:

Alice Barbery, Angelique Chiu, Catherine Baird, Divya-Jyoti Sharma, Jane Campton, Janelle Cuthbert, Jo OBrien, Jolanta Masojada, Joy Bowman, Leanne Barnes, Melanie Armsby, Rhyll Gardner, Rosanne Jessop and Terri-Helen Gaynor.

Commenting on the course, Leanne Barnes, said: "I found the sessions I did get to attend of great value and learnt and reinforced so much from Margot (she really has so much of this covered and leads the sessions with great engagement and support) I also got much from the assembled participants with so much experience & background. Thank you to you WOB and particularly Margot for this program, highly recommended."

Other participants said they enjoyed sharing and hearing from Margot and other women about real-life situations, and that they were given very practical suggestions of things they can take to the board immediately.

“There was a great balance between theory and practical application...Margot had a very pragmatic approach and was able to offer valuable insight herself as well as facilitate insights from the group,” said another participant.

The program provides practical tips and tricks that you need to know, whether you’re new to a board, want to get onto board or have had some experience and want to talk about the problems and challenges you’re facing.

"I was delighted to join forces with Women on Boards to offer The Boardroom School to its members far and wide," said Margot.

"The 14 inaugural participants in the program were wonderful women from a broad range of backgrounds, industries and board experiences. The design and intent of the program is to focus on practical governance, the things directors need to know, be aware of and think about when sitting at the board table. Through the material presented and the fabulous discussions we had a wide range of topics and issues were canvassed, many stories shared and handy tips and techniques learned by all of us, me included, which was fabulous."

Margot develop the public program and has been presenting it to people who want to know how to be on boards.

“It’s applicable to anybody who’s interested in being the best director they can be. It’s really helpful for people who are on boards and who are getting more and more experienced by taking on more and more positions. It also helps those who are new to boards.”

“I have had participants who’ve been very excited that what they’ve learned will help them when they take their first board role as well. It’s pitched broadly because the principles apply to everybody, regardless of the situation.”
