Experienced NED Philippa Taylor was WOB’s special guest at the Melbourne Director Lunch last week where she shared her inspiring story with our Victorian members.

It was a full house at Clayton Utz Melbourne, with many new and long term members enjoying the afternoon of learning and relaxed networking.

In her presentation, Philippa shared her journey to the boardroom and described how her values have driven her board pathway.

Some of Philippa's excellent tips included:

  • Be curious and keep yourself educated
  • Understand the value you bring to a board and incorporate this into your pitch
  • Challenge the hurdles you put in your own way
  • Be resilient - it's a long game and don't take things personally.
  • Ask for help and give back

After the event, Phillipa thanked WOB for the opportunity to share her thoughts. “What an impressive room of high calibre women were in the room. The future of boardrooms looks bright indeed,” she said.

WOB Executive Director Claire Braund, who travelled from Sydney for the event, also shared her insights during the day. Also attending were WOB Chair, Sheena Wilson, MyMentor Program Manager Catherine Brown and COO & Director Nicole Donegan.

WOB Cultural Diversity Committee Chair, Sara Pantaleo, who also attended the event. “I loved hearing Philippa’s story, her funny and friendly style and her generous sharing,” Sara said.

WOB member and senior healthcare executive Emma McMullan described the event as “fantastic”.  Philippa was full of energy and insights with great humour about her journey to and in the boardroom,” she wrote on LinkedIn.

WOB extended special thanks to Susan Taylor and Clayton Utz for hosting.
