Be Prepared

17/02/2016
Weekly postings of board vacancies are tracking upwards as organisations emerge from the holiday period. To date, some 90 new boards and committees have been listed with WOB. Many of these offer multiple board seats. This week NSW government vacancies have returned.

It’s imperative that you have a current WOB profile. The format is aimed to maximise your opportunity for getting to the next stage of the process. Remember, it’s not your life story. Recruiters continue to say they don’t read past page two.

Responses to our first posting for the Federal Government Boardlinks programs has shown up some weaknesses in your profiles. Common areas for improvement are:
  • Say less rather than more about your executive roles. Directors function at the top of the organisation. It’s not necessary to list the 15 things you did as an executive for a company or government department.
  • Context matters so list some professional roles as well as your board roles.
  • Attributes are your personal qualities – not a rewrite of your activities.
There are other omnibus invitations looming so as per ID 4781 - so please be prepared.
