Getting your feet under a boardroom table (or two) is only the start of your board journey. How you exercise your responsibilities and what you achieve while serving on the board will then set the tone for the rest of your board career.
Our aim is for you to succeed in the boardroom, and we will do our best to support you for the duration of your board journey.
WOB has a range of programs, director lunches, boardroom insights and update sessions to provide you with the knowledge, information and connections for you to exercise your director duties wisely and well.

Practical governance for leaders & directors
A practical and informative eight-week virtual program founded on the basics which quite often aren't as basic as they seem. Presented by Margot Foster AM, The Boardroom School will assist you to develop a kitbag of practical governance skills to build your knowledge and confidence to become an effective director.
This program is suited to:
- Established and emerging Non-Executive Directors.
- C Suite and other professionals seeking to understand how a board really operates (as opposed to the textbook).
- Anyone looking to move into the boardroom and wanting to get a feel for boardroom dynamics and what goes on behind closed doors.

In conjunction with our excellent corporate partners, we host Director Briefings with leading Non-Executive Directors. These are excellent opportunities to network with fellow directors who are members of, and external to, the WOB network at a small, boutique event with fewer than 50 people. Topics vary but usually encompass a short history of the speaker's career and current challenges and opportunities in the sectors and organisations in which they serve as directors.
WOBChat is a virtual one-hour session held fortnightly, except in school holidays. It provides members with the opportunity to connect, share stories and discuss issues arising from informal presentations on a diverse range of topics. Free of charge for Full, Premium, Corporate or Champion members.
WOBMeet is held quarterly at unique inner city venues in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and now Hobart for our members to meet or reconnect, share knowledge and information and practice their all important 'elevator pitch' ...over a friendly drink. The atmosphere is informal, relaxed and supportive.
What are non-executive recruiters looking for in a board candidate? What do they want to know about you? And how does your ‘pitch’ really come across?
Meet our guest headhunters who will share a brief insight into their work and what they are seeing in the market currently. In discussion with WOB Chair, Ruth Medd will further discuss:
- The search process: What’s in demand; is it women? Is it particular skills?
- Tips for candidates wanting to be known by their firm.
- Advice to a candidate that makes it to interview and beyond.
