Why a mentor is your secret to getting ahead?

What do Julia Gillard AC, David Gonski AC and Mia Freedman have in common? Aside from their contributions to public life and professional success, each had a mentor to guide them to the top of their respective fields.

Many senior men and women attest to the importance of mentors to achieving professional success and personal satisfaction. Mentors allows you to tap the experience of someone who has faced similar challenges or circumtances and provide a guiding hand to assist you develop strategies to navigate your pathway. Many successful directors have mentors, many obtained through the WOB mentoring program.

In this live virtual workshop Claire Braund and Ruth Jones (WOB's My Mentor Manager) will discuss how a mentor will support your journey to (and in) the boardroom.

Claire is a former journalist and public relations manager who used her high level advocacy skills to co-found Women on Boards in Australia. She is a highly respected speaker on gender balance and related business issues, Claire an informed and entertaining presenter, a renowned networker and skilled at building relationships for common benefit. She became a Churchill Fellow in 2011 for her research into the effect of gender quotas on public listed company boards in Norway, the UK and France which led to the establishment of Women on Boards in the UK in 2012. Claire is a director of the Central Coast Conservatorium (of Music), a past director of the Foundation for Australian Agricultural Women and The Women's Club and a graduate of the Benevolent Society’s Sydney Social Leadership Program.

Ruth Jones - My Mentor Manager, Women on Boards Australia

Ruth has an extensive background leading national and international non-profit organizations in Australia and the USA. For 10 years, based in Seattle, USA, she was CEO of the Social Venture Partners Network, the largest network of engaged donors operating globally. Before this, Ruth held senior roles at Community Foundations of Canada and Philanthropy Australia.

In her personal capacity, Ruth is a director of two non-profits -  the Ten20 Foundation and Abbotsford Convent Foundation - and a member of Social Venture Partners Melbourne. For six years she was a director of Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support, a USA non-profit operating internationally.
