Legal Essentials

Run over two sessions: Session One - 2.5 hours, Session Two - 90 minutes

This foundational workshop covers the legal liability of directors. Designed for emerging and new directors, and a great refresher for current directors, the workshop provides a case-based and highly informative introduction to the key obligations of directors and board members of commercial, NFP and incorporated organisations in Australia.

Attendees will come away with:

up-to-date information on board roles and responsibilities,
practical information on directors' duties,
a check-list of possible "red flags" and risks, and
insights & knowledge from group discussions on a range of current case studies and scenarios.

Workshop inclusions:

Session 1: A 2.5 hour virtual webinar. Handout with a case study to review in your own time - (Tuesday 14 November 2023 from 12 noon - 2.30 pm AEST)
Session 2: A 90 minute follow up virtual webinar to work through the case study, raise additional questions and cement what you have learnt - (Wednesday 29 November 2023 from 12.00 noon - 1.30 pm AEST)

WOB Workshop Presenter: Dr Kath Hall

Non-Executive Director, Women's Justice Network

Dr Kath Hall is an internationally recognised legal academic and writer. She has worked with and advised a number of leading international organisations including the United Nations Joint Inspection Unit, International Bar Association Anti-Corruption Committee, Safra Centre for Ethics Harvard University, Anti-Corruption Academy Vienna, and the International Standards Organisation (ISO).

Kath is also an award winning legal educator with significant experience teaching and mentoring law students. She was one of the first Australian academics to conduct empirical research on student wellbeing and was the Australian National University (ANU) College of Law's inaugural Director of Student Wellbeing. Kath is also the co-author of the Law Student Survival Guide (3rd ed) with Professor Claire Macken.

In 2020 Kath was appointed an Honorary Associate Professor at the ANU College of Law, and since that time she has continued to engage in academic research and writing. In 2021 Kath founded Law School Success to support law students around Australia in their studies and future careers.
