Wales needs more female board directors and trustees so come along to a networking evening with wine and nibbles to broaden your understanding of the range of opportunities out there, understand how your skills and experience are transferable and to meet other board members, both current and future.
The WOB network is here to support you and can connect you, via these evenings with the women in Wales who are on or interested in boards. The purpose of this event is to introduce you to the different types of board opportunity across the sector and to hear from a panel of board directors with a wealth of experience, who will share their individual journeys to the boardroom. As well as picking up insights and ideas, this will be a great opportunity to broaden your network. Alison Thorne and Marian Evans WOB's team in Wales will be facilitating this evening.
Alison Thorne, Founder, atconnect, NED and WOB UK Masterclass Presenter
Alison held executive board positions at Mothercare, Lego Retail, George at Asda and Otto UK and non-executive roles with start-up businesses. She spent two years as a partner in an executive search firm, set up a business that supports companies to deliver through their people and now also combines this experience to help individuals present themselves effectively. Alison is Non-Executive Director of TPC Consulting a trustee of Chwarae Teg and a member of the board of Sport Wales.
Alison is a presenter for WOB's Board CV Masterclass and also provides the follow up one-on-one support. She is based in Cardiff and is WOB's contact for members in Wales.
Marian Evans, Non-Executive Director on the Cirencester
Friendly Society Ltd Board and The Federation of Agricultural Brokers
Marian is a Chartered Insurance Broker and Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), having been an executive director at Thomas Carroll Group leading the Special Risks division. Prior to that she spent 13 years with NFU Mutual where she was one of the youngest and first women in the history of the organisation to be appointed Sales Manager in Wales.
She has recently become one of only 5 individuals in Wales to be awarded the Fellowship of the Institute of Leadership and Management, the highest level awarded by the Institute. Tipped in Walesonline as one of Wales’ Top Movers and Shakers’ with a Nomination for Womanspire Leadership Award, Marian works as a Business Consultant and Director of Elevate BC ltd to empower and enable ambitious executives and businesses and she is a qualified executive coach and business mentor.
Carole-Anne Davies, Chair of the The Gregynog Trust and Chief Executive of the Design Commission for Wales
Carole-Anne is the Founding Chief Executive of the Design Commission for Wales, the national champion promoting good design for the built environment across sectors. Carole-Anne was born and educated in South Wales and obtained her degree through the Open University. Carole-Anne is an experienced leadership consultant and in 2009 spent a year advising the Scottish Government on leading change and establishing governance structures and perfomance culture. For 7 years, Carole-Anne was a trustee for National Museum Wales and is the Founding Chair of The Gregynog Trust - one of Wales's most unexpected hidden treasures.
